Rooted on the Farm

Margaret Freeman Osha, a sixth-generation Vermonter, is deeply rooted in the state's rural landscape. She and her husband, Stuart, reside in a picturesque log cabin overlooking a serene sheep pasture in Brookfield. Her upbringing on a hill farm in Northfield, where she lived and farmed for 45 years, shaped her enduring connection to the land and to the traditions of her ancestors.

The need to start anew led the couple to Randolph Center, where they established a small, diversified farm focused on local food production, including maple sugaring with horses. Osha also taught hands-on cooking classes, educating others on cooking with farm- and wild-harvested ingredients.

In her retirement, Margaret Freeman Osha finds joy in the simple pleasures of life. She immerses herself in nature, taking long walks in the woods, riding her Morgan mare, and tending her garden. She and her husband graze a flock of Icelandic sheep on their hillside property. Her writing, artwork, and photography reflect seven decades of living.

Whether you have a question about a piece of art, want to talk about a recipe, or just want to say hello—I genuinely love hearing from readers.
